Ron Gilbert's professional career has been dedicated to preventing serious aquatic injuries as well as serious spinal cord injuries. Ron's activities have helped to reduce diving and other aquatic injuries and contributed to a safer environment. Ron has dedicated his entire career to helping persons with disabilities, both in his capacity as an attorney and as a compassionate friend who has volunteered his time to many aquatic safety organizations. In addition to serving as Secretary and a member of the board of the National Spinal Cord Injury Association over the years, Ron has been a member of the board for many other aquatic injury and spinal cord groups. Ron founded and is the Chairman of the Foundation for Aquatic Injury Prevention (FAIP) and the Foundation for Spinal Cord Injury Prevention (FSCIP), which are nonprofit educational groups dedicated to preventing aquatic and spinal cord injuries.

Ron earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1964 from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. He went on to earn a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1967. In subsequent years, Ron has undertaken additional graduate course work at both the University of Michigan and at Wayne State University Law School.

Professional Career
Ron began his legal career working in the Wayne County Prosecutors Office, but soon moved on to the private law firm of Rouse, Selby, et al. In 1972, Ron joined the firm of Charfoos & Charfoos, which later came to be known as Charfoos, Christensen, Gilbert & Archer, P.C., one of Michigan's preeminent plaintiff' s law firms. After leaving his friends at the Charfoos firm, Ron established his own firm, Ronald R. Gilbert, P. C. in 1984. Since that time, Ron has provided legal counsel to victims of spinal cord injuries and aquatic injuries throughout the United States. He has represented over 200 victims of spinal cord injury from aquatic accidents in more than 35 states.

In his capacity as an advocate for aquatic and SCI injury victims, Ron has written numerous articles that have appeared in both professional and health care publications. Ron also has been a frequent speaker on a variety of aquatic and spinal cord injury topics, throughout the United States.
